scalloped borders
A reader asked me to elaborate on my Scalloped Edge tutorial. So, I’ve created 4 new scalloped borders and this tutorial.

1. Scallop With Dots

Inside Circle:
scallop border white stroke

Create a circle with a 4pt, white stroke.
Create a 2pt, pink stroke (top layer of the Appearance palette).
Cap: Round Cap
Corner: Round Join
Align Stroke: to Center
Dashed Line: Checked
Align dash to corners and path ends
Dash: 0
Gap: 4
Set the dimensions of the circle to 1.93in x 1.93in

Outside Circle:
scalloped border pink
Create another circle with a 6pt, pink stroke.
Align stroke: to Inside
Create a 12pt, pink stroke (top layer of the Appearance palette).
Cap: Round Cap
Corner: Round Join
Align Stroke: to Center
Dashed Line: Checked
Align dash to corners and path ends
Dash: 0
Gap: 11
Set the dimensions of the circle to 2in x 2in

Select the 2 circles (Inside and Outside Circles).
Align them vertically and horizontally.
Right-click on the Inside Circle/Arrange/Bring to Front


2. Circle Scallops

Inside Circle:
Create a circle with a 6pt, green stroke.
Align stroke: to Inside.
Set the dimensions of the circle to 1.9in x 1.9in

Outside Circle:
scalloped border green
Create another circle with a 5pt, green stroke.
Cap: Round Cap
Corner: Round Join
Align Stroke: to Center
Dashed Line: Checked
Align dash to corners and path ends
Dash: 0
Gap: 7
Set the dimensions of the circle to 2in x 2in

Select the 2 circles (Inside and Outside Circles).
Align them vertically and horizontally.
Right-click on the Inside Circle/Arrange/Bring to Front


3. Star with Rounded Corners

Inside Circle:
Create a white circle with a 3pt, white stroke.
Create a 5pt, teal stroke (bottom layer of the Appearance palette).
Align Stroke: to Inside
Set the dimensions of the circle to 1.8in x 1.8in

Outside Circle:
scalloped border star
Create a teal Star
Radius 1: 1.2in
Randius 2: 1in
Points: 16
Go to: Effect/Stylize/Rounded Corners/Radius: 0.139in/OK
Set the dimensions of the star to 2.4in x 2.4in

Select the 2 circles (Inside and Outside Circles).
Align them vertically and horizontally.
Right-click on the Inside Circle/Arrange/Bring to Front


4. Heart Scallops

Draw a white heart with a pink scallop.
Go to: Windows/Brushes/New Brush/Pattern Brush/OK.
Name the brush/Scale: 10%/Spacing: 10%/OK.

Draw a circle
On the Control Panel: Stroke/Brush Definition
Choose the heart scallop
Increase the stroke size to your linking (on the Control Panel).

Optional:
Create a red heart stroke
