tonal colors

The cover of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet,by Jaime Ford, uses soft, golden sunset tones to invoke a romantic, nostalgic feel. Can you use these muted orange-yellow hues on your website or blog?

These colors appear very close together on the color wheel, giving off a gentle energy, unlike contrasting colors, those opposite each other on the spectrum, which jolt the viewer’s eye.

On this cover, the use of flourishes add a layer of dimension. The flourishes, harmoniously, remain in the same tonal range as the rest of the design.

The book portrays a controversial love story between a Chinese American boy and Japanese American girl, during WWII. The delicate colors of this cover art, illustrate the innocent relationship between the two characters.

Do you need to capture a certain mood for your website? If so, consider using tonal colors.
